CPR Certification in Virginia

CPR & First Aid Requirements in Virginia
Virginia has among the strongest CPR requirements for educators in the nation. Under Gwyneth's Law, all public school teachers must complete CPR, AED, and First Aid certification for both initial licensure and every renewal, with hands-on practice required and online-only courses not accepted. Virginia also requires all 911 telecommunicators and dispatchers to receive CPR training under a 2020 law. Childcare workers, camp counselors, and healthcare professionals must maintain current certification. Both AHA and Red Cross certifications are accepted with two-year renewal periods.
