Whether you need CPR certification for your job, to meet school requirements, or for personal preparedness, Illinois has accredited training centers offering American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and ASHI classes. Most classes include hands-on skills practice and take between 2–6 hours to complete. Certifications are typically valid for two years.
CPR & First Aid Requirements in Illinois
Illinois requires all licensed childcare providers to maintain current Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid certification with a hands-on skills demonstration, as mandated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Since 2014, all high school students in grades 9-12 must receive CPR and AED training before graduation. While CPR certification is not mandatory for all K-12 teachers, each school is encouraged to have at least one certified staff member. Healthcare and EMS professionals must maintain certifications following AHA guidelines, and both American Red Cross and American Heart Association certifications are accepted statewide.
