How to check in students

Mark students as present on the day of class using the roster — including what happens for blended classes with unfinished online pre-work.

On the day of class, use the roster in your dashboard to mark students as checked in.

How to check in students
  1. 1Log in and open the class that is happening today (My Classes in the sidebar).
  2. 2Scroll down to the Roster section on the class page.
  3. 3As students arrive, find their name in the list and click Check In.
  4. 4If a student does not show up, click No Show on their row.
💡
Tip: The Roster is a single list on the class page — scroll to a student's row to check them in. Each row also shows payment and pre-work status at a glance.

Blended classes: checking in a student who has not finished pre-work

For blended classes, students are supposed to complete their online course before the in-person session. If you click Check In for a student who has not finished, a "Pre-work Incomplete" pop-up appears showing their percent complete and two choices: Check In Anyway or Skip for Now.

What each option does

  • Check In Anyway — checks the student in despite unfinished pre-work. This is logged (who overrode it and their pre-work percent at the time) so there is a record.
  • Skip for Now — closes the pop-up without checking the student in. Come back to them once they finish, or after talking to them about completing it.
⚠️
Important: Overriding check-in does NOT mark the pre-work itself as complete, and it does not skip the cert-issuance requirement. A certification cannot be issued until the online course shows complete — checking a student in without finished pre-work just lets them join the in-person session; you (or your supervisor) will still need to resolve the incomplete course before the class can be marked Complete and certs issued.
ℹ️
Note: If a student insists they finished the course but it still shows incomplete (a SCORM player glitch), a supervisor or admin can manually mark their pre-work complete from the class roster. This requires supervisor-level permission — ask your admin if you do not see that option.
ℹ️
Note: Some tenants turn off the pre-work check-in gate entirely, so instructors can always check in a student regardless of course progress (the cert-issuance requirement still applies either way). If you never see the "Pre-work Incomplete" pop-up, this setting is likely off for your organization — ask your admin.
ℹ️
Note: Students can also check themselves in by scanning the QR code on their confirmation email when they arrive — see "Checking in with the QR code" for how that works.

Once all students are checked in and class is complete, mark the class as Complete. This triggers certifications to be issued.

⚠️
Important: Do not mark a class as Complete until all check-ins are done. Certifications are generated based on who is checked in at that time.
